Dunbar Sporting

Pheasant & Partridge shooting on St Mary’s Isle Estate, Dumfries & Galloway

St. Mary’s Isle Estate is a delightful family-owned country Estate near Kirkcudbright, South West Scotland.  It has been in the Hope-Dunbar family for over 300 years, with shoot records dating back to the late 18th Century.

For the past 65 years the Estate and its shoot were run by my father, Sir David Hope-Dunbar Bt.  Having recently taken ownership, I have returned home to Dumfries and Galloway with my young family and taken the shoot back in-house, re-launching as Dunbar Sporting.

We have 2000 acres with stunning sea views across the Dee Valley and Solway Coast, rolling countryside and the odd steep-sided valley.  This varied topography offers exceptional pheasant and partridge shooting which is accompanied with warm family hospitality.  The shoot days have been designed to provide an unforgettable experience for up to 8/9 guns plus guests, with availability on select dates in October, November, December and January.  Each shoot day offers an opportunity to bag between 200-300 birds.

In days past St. Mary’s Isle was a renowned grouse and partridge shoot, today the focus is pheasant and partridge.  Our variety of drives includes Moss Banks, High Banks, Glenley and Paradise.    We are also able to offer wild fowl and roe deer stalking by prior arrangement.

Our typical shoot day starts with guests gathering at the family home for a briefing over coffee.  As well as the variety of drives, elevenses hosted in our purpose built shoot hut, with lunch and afternoon tea served in the family home.  Accommodation can be provided at The Selkirk Arms Hotel, which is not more than 5 minutes from our front door. For other accommodation please contact me for more details on 01557 330424 or 07970 782440 or office@dunbarsporting.co.uk.

We look forward to welcoming you to St Mary’s Isle Estate

The final presentation of the birds at Moss Banks shows what a success the shoot is. I want to express my sincere gratitude for the warm hospitality and the exceptional experience I and my fellow guns received from the St Mary's Isle Estate Shoot. The keepering, beating and picking-up teams really are to be commended
